- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon roasted chana dal
- 1 tablespoon urad dal
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon mustard seed
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Steps In Making Upma
- Place a pan over medium flame and roast the semolina for 3-4 minutes while stirring it continuously. Do not roast on high flame else it might burn immediately. Now keep in aside.
- In another pan add ghee and oil and once it becomes hot add the mustard seeds, roasted chana dal and urad dal and roast for a minute till the mustard seeds start to pop and the colour of the dal becomes light brown.
- Now add the chopped onions, curry leaves and green chillies and cook for 2-3 minutes, till the onions become soft and translucent.
- Further add the chopped carrots and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Now add the water, salt, sugar and bring it to a boil.
- Once the water comes to a boil add the roasted semolina and mix well. Now cover it with a lid and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes on medium flame till the water is completely absorbed.
- Lastly add some lemon juice and fresh coriander and mix again. Cover it with a lid and let it rest for 3-4 minutes before serving.
- Serve hot with chutney or garam chai. Enjoy!
